The Strategic Vision of the SPE CCUS Technical Section
Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) is a critical pathway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by capturing CO₂ and preventing its release into the atmosphere. Our focus is on safe, permanent storage in geological formations, including depleted oil and gas reservoirs and saline aquifers.
A holistic strategy to ensure CCUS is a viable and scalable solution for decarbonizing the global energy system.
Mastering the subsurface, driving innovation, and building the ecosystem for global CCUS deployment.
Guiding the future of carbon capture, utilization, and storage technology.
Leading the strategic direction of the SPE CCUS Technical Section, driving innovation in carbon management, and fostering collaboration across industry, academia, and policy sectors to advance sustainable energy solutions.
Meet the dedicated professionals leading our technical section forward.
Collaborative efforts driving the advancement of CO₂ storage safety, integrity, and standardization.
The CO₂ Storage Work Group (CSWG) is a collaborative effort formed in 2024 with a core group of volunteers. CSWG is part of the SPE CCUS Technical Section and associated with the SPE Well Integrity Technical Section, with a top-level mission to advance the safety, integrity, and efficiency of CO₂ storage.
The SPE CO₂ Storage Resources Committee is responsible for matters related to estimating, classifying, categorizing, and reporting CO₂ storage resources in the context of the CO₂ Storage Resources Management System (SRMS).
With over 30 years of experience in CO₂ injection for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), the petroleum industry possesses the core competencies to drive CCUS advancement.
